2613 at Sandy Cut by Larry Fellure

2613 at Sandy Cut by Larry Fellure

Description : IC # 2613 at Sandy Cut - "Date is Saturday, October 2, 1960, location MP 135 Sandy Cut, on the Louisville-Paducah main line of the Illinois Central's Kentucky Division. The occasion was a special passenger train noting the last official run of Illinois Central steam power. The special was handled by IC # 2613, a 4-8-2 or Mountain type steam locomotive, built by the IC Paducah Shops in 1943. The 2613 was built with 70 inch drivers, 275 pounds boiler pressure, weight of 423,000 pounds, 83, 000 pounds tractive effort, carrying 26 tons of coal, 22,000 gallons of water in her tank. As most railfans know, this engine was scrapped several years after its last run. Camera I used on this unforgettable day was a Yashica 635 twin lens reflex, Kodacolor X film, ASA 100. Too many years have past to remember the shutter speed and f stop - sorry! (Photo by Larry K. Fellure, Jacksonville, Fl)
